Shirland — Maida Hill, London

Shirland

This Victorian building in Maida Hill was gutted and rebuilt with new split-level floors, turning it into 20 self-contained studio rooms for short-term rental. Every room has a small double bed, en-suite shower, kitchenette, a wardrobe and a wall-mounted TV, plus its own water meter and consumer unit so each one runs independently.

To fit them all in, Cobalt extended the building from ground floor to second floor on both sides into the rear garden. There was nowhere on site to put a skip, and every room had its own quirks, so the work went room by room rather than floor by floor.
